so, what now?

Amidst disasters, wars, economic depressions, and inequalities, this is a call that echoes within us all. On one hand, it is the voice of despair and helplessness; on the other, the harbinger of a new beginning, of birth.

In its inaugural year, with the theme “BIRTH,” the Cappadocia Biennial approaches art as a tool for generating practical proposals where creative thought is transformed into social benefit. It invites artists not merely to bear witness, but to create solutions. Every artwork is a proposed solution; every proposal, a symbol of rebirth. It is a call for production that finds meaning not in the abstract realm of art, but at the very center of life —in shelter, food, education, health, and solidarity.

BIRTH,” the theme of the Cappadocia Biennial's inaugural year, is not merely a concept but a form of action. Symbolizing both individual and collective renewal, it emerges as an action that cultivates the hopes of the future from the traces of the past.

The Cappadocia Biennial chooses not to be a spectator standing on the verge of transformation, but to be the transformation itself. This new path opened by art reminds us all of the same question once again:

so what now?

Now is the time to dare to think of the world from a new perspective!

Mission of the Biennial

Sinemasal is a social enterprise leveraging the transformative impact of art to address social and global issues.

The aim of the Cappadocia Biennial, organized under the Sinemasal umbrella, is to demonstrate that art is not merely an aesthetic form of expression, but a mode of thinking and production that can inspire vital solutions.

Held for the first time with the call 'so, what now?', the biennial aims to make visible the healing, unifying, and mobilizing potential of art in the face of global issues such as disasters, wars, economic depressions, and inequalities.

The Biennial views every artist participating in the production process as a 'solution partner.' Accordingly, participating artists are encouraged to develop practical, sustainable, and creative proposals in their works regarding basic vital needs such as nutrition, shelter, health, education, and clothing.

The Cappadocia Biennial aims to strengthen the bond art establishes between nature, society, and the individual, and to build a lasting dialogue between the local and the universal. Together with the artworks, this dialogue transforms into a broad public experience through exhibitions, talks, film screenings, concerts, workshops, and educational programs.
